Stainless Steel U Bolts installation
The stainless steel U bolt is a common connecting element that is used in a wide variety of mechanical structures. its name comes from its unique shape, which looks like a “U” in the shape of a zigzag.
Before installing the stainless steel U bolts, we need to prepare the necessary tools- the wrenches. SS U bolt accessories, such as nuts, washers, and baffle plates, are pre-installed on the U bolts to prevent parts from falling apart and being lost during transportation. Select bolts of the appropriate size and material to ensure that they can withstand the required loads.
In addition, we need to confirm the relevant dimensions and fittings. for example, determine whether the diameter and the length of the bolts match the parts to be connected, and select the appropriate nuts and washers to ensure a strong connection.
Mounting Position
Place the two bolt rods of the SS U bolt into the holes of the member, making sure that the rods are long enough to pass through the member and threaded enough to hold the nuts.
Installation Accessories
Screw the first nuts into the top of the threads of each bolt, then into the baffle, install a flat washer and spring washer(if necessary), and finally screw in the second nuts.
Tighten the Nuts
Use a wrench or wrench tool to tighten the nuts. Make sure the bolt and nuts are tight, but not over-tightened.
Special Attention About Stainless Steel U bolts
- Galvanic corrosion can cause the combination of metal to thin, which can reduce the life of the stainless steel U bolts in use. For example, when stainless steel rubs against aluminum, it pulls the electrode out of the aluminum sheet. this can cause the aluminum to break down more quickly. if you are working with pipes that need to slide. consider using U-bolts with a thermoplastic coating. which reduces friction and helps avoid cracking or tearing of the pipe.
- The depth of the ss u-bolt will determine the freedom of movement of the pipe or tubing. however, failing to thread the U-bolt in deep enough can lead to big problems. if the nuts extend beyond the end of the bolt, it puts extra pressure on the bolt and the nut. This means that the nut will not hold the U-bolt securely due to gravity and the pipe pulling it down. the result may be that the bolt falls off and objects fall. instead, make sure the bolt extends through the entire head of the nut.
- The holes for the ss U-bolts need to be securely fitted to the end of the bolts, if they are too large they leave space for harmful corrosive substances such as dust or water, and can cause the bolt to wobble forcing the U-bolt to be inserted or hammered into the hole, which can result in the threads stripping out.
